Cyrus checkpoint

[Sean Colins - Core Professional Services]

Does anyone have a good technical description of what checkpointing 
does to the Cyrus database? I have a colleague asking on another list 
and I am finding I can't put it into a concise description. (also I'm 
not sure what I know for sure, and what I'm assuming from experience.)
