I recently had something very strange happen to a user's mailbox. This is cyrus-2.2.3 on RH EL3. When examining a user's cyrus directory, it appeared that directories existed(empty) which had filenames of message files.
For instance directories existed like drw------- cyrus mail 48. I could not reconstruct the mailbox since the directory was empty and did not contain the necessary information. I have seen this once before on my old cyrus-1.6.24 setup. It appears that directories with names like message files were created somehow? I removed the directories and could then reconstruct the mailbox.
