strace/truss an imapd during the connection process and see what is taking the time.
Sounds good in theory, but how would I do that? Just watching imapd.log for messages like
Feb 9 17:46:28 lvr1 master[24472]: about to exec /usr/lib/cyrus-imapd/imapd
and trying to strace them quickly enough? Or would it be possible to create an additional service in cyrus.conf like this:
imaptrace cmd="strace imapd" listen="imap.uni-koeln.de:12345"
