Good catch. That patch contains a batch of libc performance
improvements, including this one:
4782294 localtime_r is slow on Solaris when compared to Linux
The backtrace on the core file showed:

I've pulled that patch from my Solaris 9 patch cluster. Has anyone
reported the bug to Sun?
