Hi,

Had the same problem on RH9; my solution was to add the user cyrus to the /etc/sasldb2
Try
saslpwd2 -c cyrus
 

didn't work :(

       lx14:~ # cyradm --user cyrus localhost
       Password:
       cyradm: cannot authenticate to server with  as cyrus
