I donšt believe it (It shouldn't) opens the mailbox until you have been authenticated. In my case the pop server refuses on the user lookup before being asked the password. The pop process should have never reached a point to open the INBOX for processing. Imap I was able to log in fine and open the INBOX. I have not stopped to dig into source but I suspect the pop either has allowed user character parsing or is separating the user from domain and attempting to just look up the user. If I use a user of just "cyrus" pop logs in fine it seems. Not a shock as I was using the wrong version for virtual domains.
