Theres no reason for them to be different between a frontend and a backend. (Indeed, it is highly recommended that you compile all servers in a murder with exactly the same configuration). A backend may wind up getting TLS connections (via referrals in 2.1, and from frontends in 2.2). A frontend also needs an mboxlist.
