I have always run into this on OE 6. Outlook XP, at my work does not seem
to suffer from this problem. In fact, if I "corrupt" a message on my home
computer with OE 6, it looks deleted and read. When I click on it, it says
"Message is no longer available."

If I go to work, the message is marked as unread and not deleted. I can
read and download the message and any attachments just fine.

I would say this is an OE problem, because OE is not properly reflecting
what the server says via the IMAP protocol.

Just for info, my cyrus setup:

SASLv1,
imapd-1.6.24
solaris 6
