yes, this will do, as long as your acls are not too restrictive.

i recommend using simon loader's ldap+mysql patch for cyrus sasl, which
enables the sasl library to authenticate a user against an ldap
directory ( http://www.surf.org.uk/src/cyrussasl.html ).
