I'm not sure what problem you're encountering or if I'm
misunderstanding things, but I see no problems with a bare '.' using
Postfix.  I just tested via /usr/lib/sendmail (sym link to Postfix's
sendmail) using the '-i' option.  Redirect worked fine.  Destination
got the message that I typed.  This is with 1.1.0.
