You might want to have a look at a little (and hackish) script I wrote
called purgeimap:
http://solidlinux.com/~justin/purgeimap/
This operates over the IMAP protocol, however. Also note that it could
be easily extended to handle multiple accounts or folders. Eventually
I'll get around to improving this...
