Hello,

this is my 2nd attempt to post to this list, the first seemed to be
failed for unknown reasons (the mail didn't come through).

I compiled and installed successfully cyrus-sasl (1.5.24) and
cyrus-imapd (2.0.16). The cyrus-sasl testsuite runs without any problems
(testing PLAIN, CRAM-MD5, DIGEST), but when I test the imapd using
"imtest" like suggested in the installation instructions (e.g.:
/usr/local/bin/imtest localhost) the output doesn't list any
authentication mechanisms (e.g.: AUTH=ANONYMOUS, AUTH=GSSAPI)

The output looks like this:

C: C01 CAPABILITY
S: * OK test.server.com Cyrus IMAP4 v2.0.16 server ready
S: * CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 ACL QUOTA LITERAL+ NAMESPACE UIDPLUS ID
NO_ATOMIC_RENAME UNSELECT MULTIAPPEND SORT THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT
THREAD=REFERENCES IDLE
S: C01 OK Completed
Authentication failed. no mechanism available

In imapd.conf I have entered:

sasl_pwcheck_method: passwd

I tried it also with "sasldb" but it fails too.

Another strange thing is the fact, that imapd seems to make everytime
use of sasldb, despite the fact that I entered "passwd" as
sasl_pwcheck_method. The corresponding entry in "auth.log" looks like this:

Aug 17 14:23:21 test imapd[7017]: error fetching from sasldb: Invalid
argument
Aug 17 14:23:21 test imapd[7017]: error closing sasldb: Invalid argument

I tried "imtest" with "allowanonymouslogin" set to yes (in imapd.conf)
and this works fine for me. But I sure want to use some authentication
mechs.

My system configuration is:

Red Hat 7
SASL 1.5.24
Imapd 2.0.16
Sendmail 8.11.3

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

        Ralf
