Hi,

I've never setup or configured any internet mail package before, so I'm
hoping I'm missing something simple.

I've followed the install.html and looked at the cyrus how-to, and
searched the mailinglist archive but I don't see what I'm doing wrong.

I have berkley db 3.2 installed, sasl 1.5.24 and cyrus-imapd-2.0.16 on
RH7.0. Eventually, when I get that configuration working, I want to use
openssl 0.9.6 and sendmail 8.12.0 B16.

There doesn't seem to be an existing imapd package installed.

When I run master and imtest to check the installation, all I see is:
C: C01 CAPABILITY

Telnet to the port results in a connection but no response from the server.

the /etc/xinetd.d does not have anything for imap or any other protocol
that should be handled by master.

/etc/services has the entries that are listed in the install doc.

I don't remember what my initial configuration options were, but I found
a post where someone shared their configure options and I reconfigured
and recompiled with no luck.

./configure --disable-krb4 --disable-gssapi --disable-cram
--disable-digest --with-dblib=berkley

The only deviation I did from standard was to make symlinks from the
standard /usr/cyrus and /var/imap directores to /home/cyrus and
/home/var/imap because my root filesystem is space constrained.

Any suggestions? How do I diagnose what's going wrong here?
TIA
Eddy
