Don't know for Qmail, but newer versions of sendmail are fully
integrated with cyrus-sasl (linked with libsasl) and sendmail is
reading /etc/sasldb for ESMTP AUTH.
For better work of cyrus-imapd and sendmail together I preffer to
compile sendmail with:
APPENDDEF(`conf_sendmail_ENVDEF', `-D_FFR_UNSAFE_SASL=1')
and chmoding /etc/sasldb like this:
-rw-r----- 1 cyrus root 12k Feb 10 14:04 /etc/sasldb
So cyrus and sendmail can read users realms and passwords from it.
