It appears that searching the body of messages with whitespace is
broken; this is a general bug affecting Cyrus and not just the
archive.* folders on cyrus.andrew.cmu.edu.

I haven't tracked down the problem yet.

David Bosso pointed out in private email that the 8000 message folder
was likely the uw-imap mailing list, not this one. Yes, the 8000 count
was for that list, but this one is close.

He also mentioned that his searches were working fine. Curious, I went
back and did some further searches. A bit of experimentation seems
to indicate that the problem was with searching for phrases rather than
individual words. A search on "Medical Center" (from a randomly picked .sig)
shows only one hit. However, having a two parameter search for "Medical"
and "Center" gives a lot of hits.

I don't know the cause of this distinction, nor whether it is the fault
of the client or server. Maybe it's the encoding of the whitespace by the
client, which isn't getting interpreted the same way on the server.
   Just a WAG.

Anyway, knowing that gotcha, I can now do suitable searches on these
   archives. Thanks for the help.

FWIW, the client used for testing was Linux Netscape 4.72.
