Have to admit, this is one of the reasons why I like Postfix.  With
it I'm able to control the number of the various sub-processes.  In
fact, this is my lmtp line in master.cf:

lmtp      unix  -       -       n       -       5       lmtp

This means there will never be more than 5 lmtp connections to the
Cyrus server.

As far as I know, this is currently the only way to control it.
