What version of Cyrus and SASL are you using? I've been using PAM with
imapd/timesieved since Cyrus 1.6.x, and it works fine.
IIRC there was a problem using PLAIN auth with imapd/timesieved when
linked with SASL 1.5.24. This has been fixed in the latest version of
Cyrus. If you're using Cyrus 1.6.x, you might have to use SASL 1.5.15.
