sendmail 8.9 is pretty old, issues of LMTP not withstanding.  There are more 
security features in the newer releases, including AUTH SMTP -- an essential 
element is a robust "no spamming allowed here" strategy.  And then I moved to 8.11 
to begin experimenting with TLS.  Unless you're dependent on the old 8.7 (I think 
that's the right verion) LDAP strategy, I can't think of any good reason not to 
upgrade to at least 8.10.1 or 8.11.
