Hi Amos!
Oops, I meant to reply to the list, sorry about that!

:Well, if you want to connect via the local, UNIX domain socket. The
:lmtp service that's included in the Postfix snapshots doesn't
:support connections via UNIX domain sockets. Also, it was my
:understanding that if one connects to Cyrus 2.X via inet domain
:sockets (via inetd), then LMTP AUTH was required, which the Postfix
:lmtp service doesn't support either.
I was reading about all this a bit on an archive somewhere, makes sense.
And I also noticed for supressing multiple delivery the MTA needs to talk to
lmtp directly, so it's definitely something I'll do. Where can I find this
patch btw?
:Not sure I follow this one. Modularity of design is not a factor as
:to whether lmtp is working or not. Stuff like using lmtp over a
:UNIX domain socket just isn't implemented at this point.
Actually I meant I was wondering how it was possible for postfix to
communicate with anything, since it can't even communicate with itself.
(eg knowing if a delivery suceeded isn't possible with postfix (not until
you get the mailer-daemon msgs I get, at least. ;) But not at time of conn)
:The patch that Lyndon posted to postfix-users once again provides
:connections via UNIX domain sockets.
I'll look around on egroups or something. (I was going to setup our (local)
news server to take the msgs from a mailling list to a local group, haven't
gotten around to it yet. ;)
:know. However, from the log you posted earlier, it would appear
:that the communication is proceeding okay, so it must not be a
:problem.
Yes, this seems fine, from what I can see. Using postfix->deliver, is it
possible to get more verbosity? (Here's the log again, for posterity sake):
Oct 18 15:55:13 moya master[29001]: about to exec /usr/cyrus/bin/lmtpd
Oct 18 15:55:13 moya service-lmtpd[29001]: executed
Oct 18 15:55:13 moya lmtpd[29001]: accepted connection
Oct 18 15:55:13 moya lmtpd[29001]: lmtp connection preauth'd as postman
Oct 18 15:55:13 moya master[31975]: process 29001 exited, status 0
:Restarting the Cyrus 'master' process? If you are using Cyrus 2.X,
:then it should not be necessary to put a lmtp entry in inetd.conf.
:The master process will make sure the lmtpd is running.
Yeah, I think I accidentally removed lmtp from /etc/cyrus.conf when I was
testing. (So the socket wasn't recreated.)
:Okay, so what is producing this 'Data format error' message? Where
:are you seeing this?
I have NO idea, that's why I'm posting. ;) The last thing I see in my log
files is the above log segment, and then the user that sent mail will get a
bounce back stating that.. (mail comes from postfix of course):

I'm completely baffled..
