Adding File Problem

Hello!

I want to add a new file to a remote repository.

the CVS-manual says, i should simply use the "add" command.
So i use
cvs add androview\de\nightdawn\androview\galaxy\SolarSystem.java

But then I get the error message:
CVS.EXE add: in directory .:
CVS.EXE [add aborted]: there is no version here; do 'CVS.EXE checkout'
first.


But even checking out the entire repository again does not help.
What am i doing wrong? Can you help me? Thanks.
