No, you don't if you connect through localhost. It makes no sense to use encryption on localhost and you'll get errors with certificate common name verification if you try anyway.

Dovecot allows unencrypted connections through localhost by default, so just leave it like that if you don't expose it to the wild internet.

If you post log excerpts from different logs, make sure the timestamps match. The logs you posted recently are for different connection attempts on both sides of the connection, so they are useless for diagnosing problems.
