REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday started out with a light northeasterly breeze and the fleet of 80
boats was sent out for an on time start. One race was completed per division
before the wind got too spotty and the fleet was postponed afloat until 1145
when everyone went in for lunch. At 1315, a light Southeasterly filled in and
we went back out to finish seven more races per division. The wind varied
between 4 and 6 knots for most of the day and the current was running with the
wind at less than a knot early before switching for the last set. All racing
was done on a trapezoid course and the racing was kept fair by Rob Rowlands and
Rob Overton, who were on the water judging all day. Herb Larrabee and Dick
Morin joined the two Robs on the Protest Committee at the end of the day, where
one protest was filed and one of the competitors withdrew before the hearing.
When we returned to shore, the fleet was treated to a cookout by Joan Morin and
her volunteers from the Naval Academy Sailing Squadro!
