2009 ICSA National Championship Semifinals- May 2-3, Volvo Race Village on the Fan Pier, Boston
It has been confirmed that Harvard will be the host of the 2009 ICSA National Championship Western Semifinals; MIT will host the Eastern Semifinals, May 2-3, Volvo Race Village on the Fan Pier, Boston. It will be an open access site with all competitors, coaches and spectators allowed to roam about freely among the Volvo village and the waterfront while our competition is scheduled. Trash and recycling pickup, floating docks, fuel dock, food tent for 400ish with tables and chairs, entertainment on Saturday night, media trailer access for scoring and updates all provided by Premier Racing. A consistent set of SIs will be written for both events that will have flexibility to have racing on two separate courses or one depending on harbor traffic, breeze, etc. All of the infrastructure and volunteers (2-RCs, 2-Juries) will be in place to have two courses implemented at any time. All racing will be in FJs. Harvard's fleet of 18 FJs is only a year old, and the MIT fleet is 2.5 years old. Both fleets are in great condition. BC has offered 2 new FJs to have available as spares. All spectator, coaches and alternates will be on shore. Hotels are abundant in the area and they are STARVING. In the next couple of weeks the host will nail down an extremely good rate with a very nice hotel within close walking distance. The immediate intention is to make it unnecessary for teams arriving by plane to Logan Airport to feel compelled to rent vehicles. The regatta site is directly on the silver line and water taxis go to fan pier from downtown Boston and the airport. It has also been confirmed by Stanford and PCCSC that the approved women's semifinal/final format will occur at Stanford as planned. All the best as we get ready for the spring 2009 season, Mitchell Brindley President, ICSA 757.683.3387 757.683.6124 fax 757.287.1201 mobile www.collegesailing.org ________________________________________________ icsa mailing list [email protected] http://www.collegesailing.org/mailman/?listname=icsa
