I am currently working on a new project which consists of upgrading our current Nagios environment. I doing so I would like to change Nagios over to Icinga because Icinga appears to have better usability within the web UI. I've noticed the forums are not all English, monitoring-portal.org, and was wondering what is the best method of communication? This mailing list?
Or the #icinga IRC channel on freenode.
Anyways, back to my original topic pertaining to Icinga. What is the best or recommended method of migrating from Nagios to Icinga? I am currently running an old version, 3.0.6 on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
Nagios Version 3 configuration files are 100% compatible with icinga so you can just copy them to the new Icinga instance .
We are a SUSE shop and this was a hand me down system. It has taken me a little while to figure out how everything works and I still don't have everything down pat but continue to learn. I have quite a bit of clean up as many of the contacts are no longer with the company so was also wondering if I can tie this into Active Directory.
a good search in the icinga wiki might show you this https://www.icinga.org/2011/09/30/how-to-set-up-active-directory-authentication-for-icinga-new-web/
Another question I had was should I stick with the 1.8 version or start off with Icinga 2?
Icinga 2 is not even Beta or RC at the moment , if you wait for that, you'll be waiting quite a while.
1.8 is your way to go .
I am sure I'll be posting quite a bit here unless there is an English forum I am unaware of.Thanks in advance.
