Actually my first guess would be that he's having problems with the
regex code, along the lines of BSDI.
Beyond that, I would have to find out what compiler and OS version he's using.

It's certainly not a 64-bit problem. For one, a lot of people have
compiled and used it successfully on Alphas. However, since none of
us have ready access to an Alpha, it makes it hard to test. ;-)
