You need these RPMs for backward compatibility (even though you'll keep getting some warnings - see FAQ http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q3.8 )
compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.110.i386.rpm
compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.110.i386.rpm
Once you locate them (either on the RH8.0 distribution CD or from and rpmfind website), just type:
rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.110.i386.rpm compat-libstdc++-devel-7.3-2.96.110.i386.rpm
Hope this helps.
Ciao

P.S.: I basically just copied an e-mail I sent yesterday. Probably we should put this in the FAQs.

--Hi. I run redhat 8.0, and I try to install htdig v3.1.6. The problem is configure can not libstdc++ in my system even if I had installed libstdc++ package from redhat website. Please show me how to get around this problem. Thanks a lot.
