Hi,
I'm setting up my new HP Photosmart C4180 all-in-one device under Linux.
Thanks to hplip, scanning through sane and printing through cups are
working nicely.
The problem I am having is that when starting a scan, the printer
component disappears from the system. In other words, this message
appears in the kernel logs:
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
and /dev/usb/lp0 disappears.
This happens at the precise moment when I start xscanimage or scanimage.
"scanimage -L" and "sane-find-scanner" do not cause this on their own.
At this point I can no longer print, unless I unplug/replug the USB
cable, or power down and then power up the device.
I'm using hplip-2.7.7 on Gentoo, Linux 2.6.22.6, and here's the device:
