The HPLIP Fedora Core maintainers may have removed it with their rpm
update. If possible install the latest release from our website and give
that a try.

 Aaron,

After some (yes, a little) waiting, I noticed an F7 update to hplip
1.7.2-13 today. I thought it might be worth trying...
But unfortunately, all stays 'dead'. I assume I was trying too early?
Furthermore, the hp-check command seems to have vanished from my system.
How do I get it back? Is it in some devel package?

Jeroen,

Because FC7 is recent we haven't tested 1.7.2 on it. However we are
working on a new release that is being tested with FC7 which should be
released soon. If you'd be willing to wait until then you should have
better luck. We're hoping for tomorrow..
