I downloaded hplip-1.7.3 to my Fedora Core 5 and followed the hplip installation instructions by commanding 'sh hplip-1.7.3.run'. The installation program procedes OK thru Step 9(make). However in Step 10(make install) it does not complete and I get the message 'System Management Error: Authentication Rejected, reason: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed. error: unable to connect to hpiod, error: unable to connect to HPLIP I/O Please restart hplip and try again'. When I command '# /etc/init.d/hplip restart' I get 'stopping hpiod OK, stopping hpssd FAILED, starting hpiod OK, starting hpssd OK'.
When I command '# hp-check' I get(among several items) 'HPLIP running? No, HPLIP is not running (OK). When I shut down my system all items are OK except 'hpssd FAILED'. I don't know if this helps any. So, how do I get step 10(make install) to complete?
