Sorry you want to run
sh hplip-1.7.2.run
not
sh ./hplip-1.7.1.run
You'll want to put the .run file in the location that you want the hplip
files to be extracted. In other words, if you want the hplip install
directory created on your desktop put the .run file on your ~/Desktop
directory. If you want the directory created in your home directory copy
the file to your ~/ directory.
