Hello All,

I have read your replies on the HP-LIP mailing list thread that I
started. Unfortunately the issue persists. You talked about an I/O
error. I do not see why every single HP device should start giving I/O
errors just because I tried to scan something.

Let me re-iterate:

Situation 1)

HP Multifunction is connected and configured to print. Users may print
to the device with no problems indefinitely.

Situation 2)

HP Multifunction is connected and configured to print. It is then
configured to scan. Users may print to the device UNTIL a scan is
performed. After the first scan, errors are produced that say the device
cannot be found. This occurs consistently across multiple distributions
with pre-built packages or installs from the source.

It was mentioned that if communication with the device fails, the queue
may be disabled. I can appreciate that. That makes sense. But WHY
should communication cease suddenly just because a scan was performed?
Surely once the printer is plugged in a configured, there should be no
sudden losses of communication capable of causing an I/O error if it
remains plugged in, powered up and the USB cable remains connected? So
again I must ask someone to look into this issue.

Printing works. Scanning works. Trying to print after scanning DOES NOT
work. Incidentally, I just tested this with SuSE 10.2 and a HP PSC1400
series multifunction. Again, same issue.

Thankyou,

Peter Kaye.
