Greetings- I am working on getting my new HP Photosmart C3180 to work correctly on my home network. The printer is connected to my PC, which runs debian "testing", linux kernel 2.6.17. It is served using CUPS to provide service to applications running on my PC as well as to two Windows XP machines: one a standalone machine elsewhere on the network, the other a VMWare virtual machine within my linux box.
In addition to the C3180, there is a LaserJet 1200 served in the same way. It works fine from all three computers. The C3180, however, behaves very oddly. It prints the Windows XP test page fine from both Windows computers. It also prints photos fine using HP's windows software, again from the windows PC's. It usually prints the CUPS test page fine, although not always. However, printing regular material from my linux box -- whether text, postscript, jpg, or a job produced by, for example, OpenOffice -- does not work. Here's what happens: 1.) The printer light begins blinking. 2.) A sheet of paper is fed into the printer. 3.) The print head makes some noise moving back and forth. 4.) Everything stops; the power button is flashing, but nothing happens. The HP toolbox displays "Paper or cartridge carriage jammed". Pressing the cancel button causes the paper to be ejected, but the job is not printed. I am using hpijs version 2.6.10 according to apt. Any help will be much appreciated!
