Hi everybody, my new HP Deskjet 6980 does not fully operate with my OpenSuSE 10.1. From Packman I have installed the packages hplip-1.6.9-5.pm.1 and hplip-hpijs-1.6.9-5.pm.1. These contain among other things a PPD file for the 6980 (/usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/HP-DeskJet_6980-hpijs.ppd.gz).
Unfortunatelt, PPD is not recognized by YaST, since it is disregarded as
invalid. A test with cupstestppd yields to:
> marvin [~] [0] [3]> cupstestppd
> /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/HP-DeskJet_6980-hpijs.ppd.gz
> /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip/HP-DeskJet_6980-hpijs.ppd.gz:
> FAIL
> **FAIL** 1284DeviceId must be 1284DeviceID! REF: Page 72, section
> 5.5 WARN DefaultResolution has no corresponding options!
However, the syntax error is not found in the file. In the file,
1284DeviceID is correctly specified. In addition in all of /usr/share,
there is no match for 1284DeviceId (except a CHANGELOG of CUPS).
Google was not very helpful with this problem. It just shows some
matches for commit messages that state that the above error was already
corrected.
So, what's left to do? Is it my fault? Is it CUPS' fault? Other PPDs
that are shipped with CUPS (e.g. HP Deskjet 990C) work properly. But
then the printer won't print with maximum resolution, right?
Best regards
-michael
