I am still seeing version 2020-10-24.12 which you say is not the latest one
Loading texinfo [version 2020-10-24.12] Have removed the old version from synaptic, and re-installed the one I got from the git repositor, downloaded texinfo.tex, and put that in the directories where I have the .texi files. And the problem remains.
