Suit yourself. IMO, there is more to be gained by everyone if people do not hesitate to send bug reports, including about things they do not understand well. Often, a lack of understanding or confusion points to a need for improvement in the Emacs doc, if nothing else. Of course, it is preferable to consult the doc first and learn as much as you can. But there is no harm in asking questions or pointing out things that you find confusing.
