The AJL Task Force on Nazi-Era Looted Books is gathering data about the 
practices of repatriation/restitution of materials believed to have been looted 
by Nazis in the existing collections of our members. Please be so kind as to

Definitions:

  *
Nazi-era looted books: books that were stolen, confiscated, or unlawfully taken 
from their owners by agents of the Nazi regime between 1933-1945
  *
Restitution: Returning property to its rightful owner (or their heirs) after it 
was stolen, looted, or wrongfully taken.
  *
Repatriation: Returning cultural property to its country, community, or people 
of origin.
  *
Return: general term covering repatriation and restitution
  *
Original owners: the person or entity that first rightfully possessed or held 
legal ownership of the book.
  *
Heir: Descendant or legal successor of the original owner
