Nope, PCI Express does not offer any backwards compatibility with PCI. PCI Express is a point-to-point serial interface running at 2.5, 5.0, or 8.0GHz (expandable to multiple lanes), whereas PCI used a 32 (or 64) bit shared parallel bus at 33, 66, 100, or 133 MHz (including PCI-X).
Agreed though, going USB 3.0 is the better choice. :) -----Original Message----- From: Hardware [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Winterlight Sent: Friday, August 8, 2014 9:40 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [H] Greg>> P9X79_WS PCI slots too small Yes, I know all six slots are PCI Express 16 but I I assumed all current PCI slots would support all legacy PCI devices... apparently that is not the case. So I guess I will have to get a PCI E USB 3 card . Actually I like that better. I found a 7 port PCI-E card with it's own molex power connector that I am going to order.
