Nope, PCI Express does not offer any backwards compatibility with PCI. PCI
Express is a point-to-point serial interface running at 2.5, 5.0, or 8.0GHz
(expandable to multiple lanes), whereas PCI used a 32 (or 64) bit shared
parallel bus at 33, 66, 100, or 133 MHz (including PCI-X).

Agreed though, going USB 3.0 is the better choice. :)

Yes, I know all six slots are PCI Express 16 but I I assumed all current PCI
slots would support all legacy PCI devices... apparently that is not the
case. So I guess I will have to get a PCI E USB 3 card . Actually I like
that better. I found a 7 port PCI-E card with it's own molex power connector
that I am going to order.
