Thank you all for your answers. The ribbon is 1.5" wide, and definitely
synthetic. I tried to make a narrow hem as suggested but I'm either
clumsy or doing something wrong because it looked....lumpy. I think I
will try the 45 degree swallowtail cut.
Would it be period if, instead of folding the ribbon in half and cutting
it on the angle, I folded it into quarters and then cut it, creating a
sort of double swallowtail effect?
