Sybella, A few corrections to the translation: It definitely calls for grosgrain ribbon as the alternative to velvet. "Garniture" here means the trimming on the hat. (It may mean a gasket in another context!) "Pan" may refer to the two hanging ends of ribbon. "Pince" seems to mean a dart, if I interpret my dictionary correctly. "Batissez-la" - literally "build it" - i.e. stitch it? "Du sens oppose a la premiere" = "in the opposite direction to the first". Surely you are meant to bring points E and E' together?
