I'll also throw in my vote behind the Bernina 1008: no computerized parts. The sales person was actually honest when I bought it and said it was better for traveling and wouldn't need much maintenance. The only thing I'd add is that I found a guy to switch out the bobbin housing from plastic to all metal, so I'd recommend that.
