I have also made this gown & kirtle. After reading the article in Costume on the ladies wardrobes as listed in the Petre Inventories and pouring over Maria Heywood's Dress at the Court of Henry VIII, it was pretty clear that I should be in a brown wool gown, with black velvet guards. The kirtle is a heavy scarlet taffeta, tho I chose the front lacing variant. The reading is strongly recommended & will answer many of your current & future questions about this regional style. --cin
