I absolutely love the used Viking 936 I bought two years ago as well as the 910 I had before that (sold to a friend who is still using it). Normally I would recommend trying to find a used one, but unfortunately there have been issues getting repair parts (various stories - bankruptcy of supplier or tsunami destroying factory are getting the most talk). The discussion concerning replacing these machines has recently come up on the 936 list. Two recommendations have been for the Janome 1200D (ToL) and either the 1000CP or the 1000CPX. The latter is the more expensive model of those two and you may or may not need the extra capabilities.
Personally, although I love Vikings, I cannot recommend the latest line of sergers. My local dealer doesn't even carry them as she thought they were a step backward (no free arm for example).
