I would go from 1490s and move forward. I do have a couple of pages that have images from this time frame, tho my focus was more English than Vienna. And I'd go more with a hood, as seen in many of these images. The early French hoods are simple rectangles pinned onto a coif or some sort of undercap. I'd wire the edge to help it keep its shape. There are variations on this as well, including a more half-circle hood, and others.
