Italian ten was also somewhat trgiomal. Different city states with different
laws , made things like colorsand fabric weaves , ok in one area for noble
women and banned in another.
you might want to get youth hand on a copy of medievalmiscellanea" s pattern no
41 by coryn weigl ( i believe available at medeivalmisc.otg ) It has a full
newsprint page inside with just such details from contemporary sources like(ok
mostly) portraits of the upprt class with dates and very importantly geographic
2 things i trmrmbrt from that pattern, btw there is a mens corresponding ,
first, younwillkeep things looking accurate by avoiding faceted jewel and using
only cebochon. Second pearls EVERYWHERE especially in hair. Oh. More thing.
Tion sleeves were often like jewelry. A blue velvet dress might be worn with
red jeweled sleeves in one painting and show up withgold brocaded and pearls
sleeve in another. Hope this helps

Hi Aylwen,

Is there some reason you preferred the first pattern? As someone said, it
doesn't look much like -my- idea of Italian Renn. looks almost German to me,
but my DH says it just looks real middle class (on the right) and lower class
(the serving woman on the left). The overgown and sectional sleeve elements
are what look "upper class" to most folks, I think.

scale will be important in the stage decor parts... things DO need to be larger
scale to register, but not so much bigger that they look chees-y.

on the problem of short doublets & tights... 1) proper short-short doublets
would probably NOT be fast or easy to make. 2) take a look at the guy on the
left here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Botticelli_magi_detail.jpg that
red tabard-y/houpeland-y thing would be MUCH easier to do, the blue-gray
sleeves would be much easier to do and tie on to some kind of simple base under
the red, and, IMPORTANT, look how "long" the red thing is! covers delicate
bits!!! 3) take a look at florentin
