Over the years I've tried the hairpieces available and had no luck in concealing the join. I probably need some expert hands on instruction in making it all work.

I have not bought any recently, I just search the web. Generally synthetics (I think they are some kind of polyester) -are OK as long as they are not the super-cheap kind. You want a store/website that will let you return the hairpiece unworn if it does not match your hair well. Some places sell "ethic" (super-curly, kinky) hairpieces, as well as smoother ones. Be sure you get the kind you need. The most flexible hairpiece is a fall attached to a kind of covered rubber band on top. It is the same kind of covered rubber band you can buy in big packages at drugstores, and when the one in the fall loses its elasticity you can just sew on one from the drugstore. Anyway, you make part of your own hair into a ponytail and attach the fall to it with the rubber band. The band is usually covered up by what you do with the fall. If not, buy a couple of pretty hairclips you can use at need, the bar kind with silk flowers or something else nice on top, maybe a fake Victorian hair comb. Clip this over the rubber band arrangement to conceal it. You will need some plastic combs, clips, and/or bobby pins from the drugstore to do the hairstyle. Also, the synthetic hairpieces can be set with rollers and plain water. Store them in a way that avoids tangling, they are rather more prone to it than real hair.

Hope this helps.
