Hi, unfortunately unless you have some vision, you don't find out the
status of the gps receiver. Just charge it for a few hours and it'll be
good for around 17 to 20 hours. Typically i charge mine around once per
week and it is always fine. Before a long trip where I will use it most
of the day I charge it the night before.
