My understanding is that Dropbox removed support a while ago. They may be still shipping with the framework installed, however if they removed the code itself to initiate the notifications then that's the end of it.
However if you want to know when a new file or folder is added to a directory, you could use folder actions to do this with an applescript. If you're interested in this I'll go through and work on an applescript. It may take some time though.
