Let's not worry about the negative comments, just getting Growl off your system since you don't seem to like it.
First check to see if anything with Growl in the name is running. Stop GrowlHelperApp if you see it. Next Growl Version Detective is the best way to determine where Growl is on your system. You can grab it from our downloads page. The first tab is what we need to help determine where Growl is on your system.
