I believe this is useful work: one problem I've run into is how to retrieve
"old data" when we add a new consumer to the data being collected by the BMP
monitoring station. This document provides a standard way of doing that.
Some comments/questions:- In terminology section add exporter (the monitored
router).- I'd suggest to add an example of the messages sent after the summary
message.- Is there a need for an explicit end of summary message? This would be
useful to notify the consumers that the data is complete. e.g. the consumer
would wait for this notification before running any "business logic" on the
data.- Regarding summary id uniqueness, intuitively I like the proposed scheme
using UUID.- I realize implementation details do not belong in a BMP
specification but a consumer would need a way to request summary data from the
monitoring station.
