When reporting *any* error for *any* software, always report the exact version of the software you are running - in this case: are you running 1.24.1, 1.24.2, an 1.25 release candidate (which one), git master (at which commit), or something else? I'm sorry Ingo. You're right. I should have taken more time before posting. The version is 1.24.1 . cat > Test.groff << EOF .INITR references .DB "Table name" "" "" "Ref" See Table .GETST Ref for more info. EOF mmroff -Tpdf Test.groff > Test.pdf Maybe I'm missing something trivial, but it seems to yield errors. I've made a typo: .DB needs to be .TB cat > Test.groff << EOF .INITR references .TB "Table name" "" "" "Ref" See Table .GETST Ref for more info. EOF mmroff -Tpdf Test.groff > Test.pdf When reporting *any* error for *any* software, always show the complete output and/or error messages. cat references.qrf yields: m.tmac:Test.groff:2: internal error: qrf*caller string not initialized troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':83: macro '@abort' troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':3749: macro 'qrf*validate-identifier' troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':3793: macro 'SETR' troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':3157: macro 'lix@print-text' troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':3127: macro 'lix@print-line' troff: backtrace: '/usr/share/groff/1.24.1/tmac/m.tmac':3095: macro 'TB' troff: backtrace: file 'Test.groff':2 .nr pict*max-height 0 .nr pict*max-width 0 In 1.24.2, mmroff(1) is known to be broken in a highly unusual use case (including PostScript files without a bounding box via the .PIC macro and specifying the image dimensions manually using an undocumented syntax) that used to work in 1.24.1, and we are working on that. However, since you are not even using .PIC, that bug should not affect you. So far, i was unable to get any error from your above input, but admittedly, i only tested with groff-1.22.4p5 on OpenBSD-current so far. Yours, Ingo Kind regards, Hans
